TRIP ITINERARY
Discovering Etna
Our day will take us on the beautiful slopes of the north side of Mount Etna. Passing through the typical villages of Piedimonte Etna and Linguaglossa, we will cross the pine forest and the sunny vineyards from which the famous Etna DOC wine comes.
Driving up until 1800 meters altitude we will arrive at the Sartorius Craters for a 1-1 ½ hour hike around the aligned volcanic cones. From one of the craters you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Ionian coast, from Riposto to Taormina, the Calabrian coast and the peak of the volcano.
After that we will back down until 1500 m.s.l. to visit the “ladroni cave” (or “snow cave”), a cave of lava origin which was modeled and used by man to deposit the snow during the winter and make ice trade during the hot season. On the way back we will stop at Piano Provenzano 1800m.s.l., a plain destroyed by the eruption in 2002 and so far only partially restaured. Here you can stroll around and visit the many souvenir shops or drink a hot chocolate, before we return to the hotel.
