The tour will be dedicated to discover the Capital of the Island. Palermo was one of the richest cities in Europe from the 9th to the 13th centuries AD when Islamic culture, Byzantine magnificence and the vigorous world of medieval Europe were melting into a fascinating civilisation. Today, the city maintains a sense of cultural diversity.
We will visit the Cathedral, the “Palazzo dei Normanni” with its Palatine Chapel, the “Quattro Canti”, the Opera House, the Pretoria Square and the famous Martorana church.
In the afternoon, driving into the hills just a short distance out of the capital, we go on to visit the majestic Norman Cathedral of Monreale. Founded in 1174 by William the Good, the Cathedral is famous for its splendid 12th century 6500 squared meters bizantyn mosaics, as well as its beautiful cloister of the Benedectine monastery with Moorish architecture showing both Romanesque and Islamic influences. At the end of the visit, return to your hotel.
